A few miles inland from the village of Carmel stretches a pastoral river valley where residents and visitors retreat beyond the coastal fog.  The main artery is Carmel Valley Road which diverts from Highway 1 eastward along the Santa Lucia range. Day time temperatures in this region are typically 10 to 15 degrees higher than along the coast.
